Today, February 4, in light of recent improvements in COVID-19 data in Massachusetts, Governor Baker made several announcements affecting businesses.

Updated Statewide Business Restrictions

The updated statewide changes include, but are not limited to:

  • Indoor and outdoor gathering limits for private property, public spaces and event venues remain at 25 people outdoors and 10 people indoors.
  • Office limitations will be increased to 40% of total capacity.
  • Capacities for restaurants, personal services, retail, libraries, lodging, performance venues, places of worship, museums, cultural facilities and others will be increased to 40%.
  • Workers and staff will not count towards the occupancy count for restaurants and close contact personal services.
  • All other sector-specific guidance remains in place.

Boston Reenters Phase 3 Step 1 of Reopening Plan

As Boston’s COVID-19 numbers trend modestly downward and Massachusetts continues to expand access to vaccination against COVID-19, Mayor Martin J. Walsh recently announced that the City of Boston would return to Step One of Phase Three of the Reopening Massachusetts plan beginning this past Monday, February 1, 2021. 

The industries allowed to reopen on February 1 at 25% capacity include, but are not limited to:

  • Indoor fitness centers and health clubs, including gyms using alternative spaces
  • Movie theaters
  • Museums and Aquariums
  • Indoor recreational and athletic facilities, and venues with potential for low-contact (batting cages, driving ranges, bowling alleys, rock-climbing) 
  • Sightseeing and other organized tours (bus tours, duck tours, harbor cruises, whale watching)
  • Indoor historical spaces & sites 
  • Indoor event spaces such as meeting rooms, ballrooms, private party rooms, and social clubs (limited to 10 people)
