COVID 19 UPDATE: Mayor Wu Announces New Vaccine Requirements for Certain Indoor Spaces in Boston

On December 20, 2021, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced that starting on January 15, 2022, all individuals 12+ will be required to show proof of one dose of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to enter certain indoor spaces in the City of Boston. Beginning February 15, individuals 12+ will be required to show proof of full vaccination. Workers employed in these locations will also be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Children 5-11 must show proof of one dose of COVID-19 vaccination beginning March 1, and full vaccination beginning May 1.

Locations where this requirement will be in effect include:

  • Indoor dining, including bars and nightclubs;
  • Indoor fitness centers (including indoor pools, fitness studios, commercial gyms and boxing gyms);
  • Indoor entertainment venues (including movie theaters, commercial event and party venues, museums and galleries and other recreational spaces).

Covered businesses are responsible for checking proof of vaccination and placing a public notice at the entrance stating that proof of vaccination is required. This sign can be downloaded here, or picked up at locations across Boston, including Boston Public Libraries.

Proof of vaccine verification can be achieved with:

  • CDC Vaccination Card; or
  • Digital Image of CDC Card; or
  • Image or printout of any official immunization record; or
  • COVID-19 vaccine verification digital application.
